JOSEPH CRAIG ELEMENTARY
New Orleans, LA
About this Project
MMI was responsible for structural and civil engineering for the renovation of this three-story brick building in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. The school now houses a state-of-the-art science lab, new kitchen, renovated dining area and a new media center. Originally built in 1927, the building had extensive termite and moisture damage. Structural elements of all floors, the interior wooden stairs and the roof were replaced. Challenges included maintaining the aesthetic historical integrity of the building while incorporating measures to allow the school to become LEED certified. The facility serves 500 students.
